This section is reserved for advice on the use of Photoshop, Illustrator, and various other programs. It is our hope that these articles will be able to answer questions in the use of these programs. If there are techniques you would like to see added please send inquiries to info@fantigua.com. We try to answer all inquiries and will post the best examples here.

Step One: In this edition, we will teach you how to use Adobe PhotoShop to make your own glows on objects. Open the artwork or background that you are going to be working with. This can be anything you would like to try this technique on. We are using a dark background to better demonstrate this technique.

Step Two: Now, find the object or logo that you want to add to your artwork. Open this file, copy it, and then paste it into your artwork. This will make a new layer in your document.

Step Three: In this example, we are placing the automobile over a dark background. Notice, that the car has trouble standing out in certain areas from the background. So, we are going to add a Glow to the car to make it really jump off of the background.

Step Four: Duplicate the layer of the car. Now open the Hue/Saturation Adjustment, this can be done by pressing control U on the PC or command U on the Mac. Change the bottom value, the "Lightness", by dragging the slider to the far right. This will make the layer white.

Step Five: Go to the filters menu and select blur, Gaussian Blur. This will bring up the gaussian blur filter that is a default filter in PhotoShop. Change the setting to a value you think looks good, we used a setting of 16. Then we applied a blur, radial blur with a setting of 100, and changed the filter to zoom instead of radial. This makes the shape shoot outward, experiment with this setting.

Step Six: This is our final step. Here we simply turn the original car layer back on and make sure it is front of the glow layer. This is our finished artwork. Now you can add this effect anytime you need to make something pop off of the background.
